5. School Reports:

 Principal’s Report – see attached

6. School funding requests :

 Classroom funds – each enrolling FTE to get $200.00. Resource Team to get $500.00. This can be spent on any classroom resource or venture. Resource Team may apply for additional funds for specific resources or needs. Funds MUST be spent by Spring Break

 Project Chef – subsidy as per last year approved in principle. Kathy to email amount to PAC executive.

7. Other Business:

 Code of Conduct review

 deferred to November meeting.

 Young Naturalists Club – Nancy Brown

 Connie is proposing a YNC to start in Spring. $50.00 is requested for start up and resources (magazine) to connect whole school to YN concepts. Club proposed as 1 session/week for 6 weeks – Committee to refine and develop. Funds approved

 Smart Board Demo

 Kate has offered to do a demo for PAC members – perhaps at next meeting OR???

 Information item: UBC Campus and Community Planning Meeting November 1st 4:30 to 5:45 – discussion of proposal for 10 new high rise towers on South campus

Principal’s Update

PAC Update – October 2011

1. Start Up

_ very smooth; up and running the 2nd day of school

_ staffing now complete – New Staff – SSW – ; Teachers: Keri Hurst, Maggie jackson, Sean Rupert, Jorden Covert, Christene Gwynn. 19 divisions – 496 students; at max in most classes

2. Band is up and running with Mr. Dewreede; schedule still has some wrinkles

3. Peer Helpers (Suzie and Joe) –

Patrol (Susan H.); & Library Monitor (Judy) programs all running

4. Photos

5. Meet the Teacher Night

_ cancelled due to job action

_ there were plans for a family barbeque night

6. Terry Fox Run

_ raised about $1500.00 for cancer research. A little less than last year.

7. Growth Plan

_ staff and SPC late Spring meetings developing, reviewing and approving growth plan for this year. A variety of sources of information considered (student assessment results, report card info, surveys, attendance data, etc)

_ big thanks to the staff and the SPC

_ some non instructional day time was used to fine tune the plan which has now been submitted to and approved by the district and the ministry. This year’s only goal is still in the area of literacy – writing – focus on struggling learners.

_ 1st step is done– SWW and DRA/RAD assessments on all students

9. Fire Drill

_ we’ve had 2 planned. All went well. Look forward to 3 or 4 more before the end of the school year

10. Non Instructional Days

_ September 26th – Peaceful Playgrounds training

_ PSA Day – October 21st – individual Pro D based on teacher interest and/or specialty areas

11. Mad Science programs have started after school Tuesdays and Wednesdays
