BCCPAC Parent Education Conference

The BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils (aka BCCPAC) puts together an annual conference for parents/guardians of students enrolled in public schools in BC. This year the virtual conference is happening on May 28-29 and has a great line-up of speakers and topics. Follow this link for more information about the conference.

Registration ends on Friday May 21st and the cost for members of our school community is $50 because our PAC is a current member of BCCPAC. Hopefully some of you can take advantage of this discount and amazing opportunity to hear from experts in key topics for families.

It’s that time of year again – the PAC AGM is around the corner! Mark your calendars and join us on May 31st at 8pm.

We are proposing some updates to our PAC Bylaws. These bylaws were first approved in September 2017, and then revised in September 2018. You can view the proposed updates here. At the AGM, we will walk through the changes and then vote on them. Feel free to reach out with any questions or comments at uhillpac@gmail.com. You can also bring your questions to the AGM.

Also, a reminder that PAC is looking for parents to join the team and take on Executive positions for this upcoming 2021/2022 school year. All executive positions are open: Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. Each of these roles can be filled by an individual, or shared between two people. Below are some guidelines on each role. To be nominated for any of the PAC Exec roles, please send Laura and Diana, our Nominations Committee, a brief description about yourself and why you want to be a member of the PAC executive (~5 sentences). Please also include your email address, a photo, the position of your interest, and your children’s grades and divisions and send to: castrejonviolante.laura@gmail.com and djposselt@gmail.com. For informative purposes, please note that this profile will be shared with the UHILL community ahead of the elections. The nominations close on May 15, 2021. The elections will be held on May 31 2021.

Mental Health Week

This coming week, May 3-9, is mental health week. The Canadian Mental Health Association has produced a school toolkit, which parents may also be interested in accessing. It focuses heavily on identifying and naming emotions and the positive impact that this can have on our wellbeing. Check it out if you are interested – there are some activities that you might enjoy trying out with your kids.
