Bike/Walk to School Week Starts Monday!

Hi UHill families,

Just a reminder that this coming week is bike (or walk or scooter or whatever other active transportation mode you choose!) to school week. This year, the event is being organized by Division one (thank you Div 1!) and they have asked us to share the following information with families:

Division One would like to tell you about our plans for Bike to School Week. From May 31st to June 4th,, we encourage University Hill students to bike or walk to school. There will be a table set up in front of the school before school, at both recesses, and both lunches (see schedule below). If you bike or walk to school during that week, we ask you to check in at the table and inform the Bike-to-School Committee members. They will ask you your grade and give you a sticker to place on our Primary or Intermediate tracking poster. This activity is to promote year-long healthy living and the reduction of emissions from our family cars. We look forward to seeing many of you on bikes next week!

            *Bike to School Check-in Schedule

                        8:45am to 8:55am

                        10:30am to 10:45am

                        10:50am to 11:05am

                        11:30am to 11:40am

                        12:15pm to 12:25pm

Free, Fun Recycling Workshop this Thursday

This coming Thursday the UHill Climate Club will host a FREE Recycling Workshop.

This interactive workshop will teach participants about the harmful impacts of waste and the importance of bin-sorting, through an engaging presentation, group discussion, and online game.

It will be held virtually and is primarily oriented to children ages 7-13; however, parents would probably get a lot out of it too! Please join in and learn more, and also support these passionate kids who truly care about each other, their families, and the earth.

When: April 29, 2021
Time: 4:30 – 5:30 pm

To join please, send an email to and we will send you the Zoom link.

The kids in UHill’s Climate Club have been working hard to prepare for this session, so please join if you can!

Grocery Card Fundraiser Reminder

Happy Family Day UHill Families.

We hope that you are having a great weekend, especially with all the fresh snow!

Thank you to all the families who have already participated in our grocery card fundraiser – we truly appreciate it! If you haven’t had a chance yet, please have a read below for more details on this important fundraiser for our school. The money that we raise from the grocery cards goes to support school initiatives such as outdoor learning, gym and art supplies, as well as technology.

The great news is that this fundraiser comes at no additional cost to you! They way this initiative works, is that you can purchase grocery cards for use at Save On Foods or Choices in denominations of $50 or $100.  You pay the face value (e.g., for a $100 card, you pay $100) and can use the card at the grocery store like you would use a debit card (e.g., you can pay for $5 of groceries on one trip and then $25 on the next trip and your card will hold the balance for your next visit).  The grocery stores donate 8-10% to the school, which is how we raise the funds. Funds are used by the PAC to support school-related activities, supplies and resources. There are no additional fees and the cards have no expiry date.

If you shop at either of these stores, please consider participating (or you can purchase grocery cards as gifts!).  To participate:

1. Fill out the paper or electronic form with your order details by Monday Feb 22.

2. Submit the payment using cash, cheque, or School Cash Online (you should have received an email from the school with details, or click here

3. Once the orders have been completed, we will distribute the grocery cards to students (or you can pick them up from the school) and you can start using the cards immediately. The cards do not expire and there are no extra fees for using them.

Forms (electronic or paper) and payment (cash, cheque or school cash online) are all due to the UHill office (or online) by Monday February 22.

Many thanks for your help with this, and feel free to share this with friends and families who may also shop at these stores.

Stay safe,

Upcoming free workshop

Hi Parents,

In May, PAC will be bringing Saleema Noon back to UHill for sexual health education sessions for students, teachers and parents. In the past, these sessions have received rave reviews from all three groups (parents, teachers and students). We will be sending out more information about the school sessions closer to the time.

For now, however, we wanted to let you know about a few class that Saleema is offering for parents. Please see below for the information that she shared with us, and click on the link to register. Please note that this is not a PAC event, but just something that we thought you may be interested in taking advantage of.

Hello friends!

You’re receiving this email because I’ve had the pleasure of teaching at your school in the last year. I’m reaching out to personally invite you to join me for a BRAND NEW free online workshop I’m hosting.  Space is limited so I’m extending this invitation to you in advance of registration officially opening on Monday, February 8. Please forward this email to your parent community as soon as you get a chance!

The workshop called Growing Up Game Plan: Parents Edition. It’s a workshop focusing on the top 3 things preteens tell us they struggle with most and how parents can support them in the best way possible. More specifically, I’ve got insider intel (straight from the trenches!) on smart things to say and do. 🤓Been to one of my Body Science workshops before? Well, this one is totally different. In this all new workshop, I’m going to walk you through your own game plan for supporting your preteen when it comes to:✅ Managing social media: how it impacts their self-esteem, their friendships, and their relationship with you.

✅ Coping with changing bodies during puberty, and how this affects body image.

✅The big one – bullying. In just one hour you’ll be a giant step closer to your preteen being more prepared, more confident, and less stressed about growing up.

This workshop is a must take if…

⚡️You want to better understand what these three struggles are about.
YES, PLEASE!⚡️You want to have meaningful conversations with your preteen about their life.
OF COURSE!⚡️You want concrete, easy to implement tips on what to do and say to support them.
HECK, YEAH!Join me for a FREE, LIVE workshop on supporting your preteen through the ups and downs of growing up. And you know I love answering questions so we’ll make time for that too. I’m offering 3 dates so pick the one that works best for you and register now!
