Back ! Young Naturalists Club (YNC)—Spring Session

Dear UHill parents,

We are now accepting applications for the UHill elementary Young Naturalists Club spring session!  If your child is in grades 1-5 and is interested in exploring nature with us on Wednesday afternoons (3-5pm) this spring (starting on March 29th, and running for 6-8 weeks), we encourage you to apply.  The application involves two components: (a) parents can fill out this form, and (b) kids need to answer these two questions (either on the attached form, or on their own piece of paper) and submit them to Corinna: Question 1: What excites you about the UHE Young Naturalists Club?  Why would you like to be part of it? Question 2. Describe (briefly) a time you were in nature and felt excited to learn more.

Applications are due by 3pm on Thursday, March 2.  Space will be limited to 20 students, and successful applicants will be selected based on the following combination of factors:

1. Submission of the application (both parent and child components) by 3pm Thursday, March 2, 2017

2. Child’s enthusiasm about being part of the club

3. Teacher recommendations

4. Age mix (we would like to have a mix of young and older children)

We are running this spring session as a pilot, with a cost of $50 for the 6-8 sessions; however, no student will be denied an opportunity to participate in an activity because of an inability to pay fees. Please do not submit any payment with your application. We will collect the payment from successful applicants.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Nancy Brown, Connie Chen and HsingChi, the organizers of the original UHE Young Naturalists club (2012-16), for their ideas and documents, and especially to Nancy for her ongoing guidance. Thank you!

All the best,

Jen (mother to Simon in grade 1)
