Earth Day BBQ Info for Families

Dear UHill Families,

The University Hill annual Earth Day BBQ is coming up on Thursday, April 21st, 2016. This is a fantastic event that brings our school community and many community partners together to celebrate the earth! This year, all proceeds from the BBQ will be donated to O.W.L Orphaned Wildlife Rehabillitation Society. They are the amazing nonprofit society that rescued, rehabilitated and released the injured eagle at UHill earlier this year. If you’d like more information about who they are and what they do, here is the link: http://www.owlcanada

Food is available by preorder only. Each meal will have a choice of hamburger, veggie burger or hotdog, as well as chips, carrots and apples. Each meal will cost $6.00. You can print out the order form at home (see attachment), or pick up a form at the office. Fill out the number of meals you need, and send the money with the order form to the office or to your child’s teacher. You only need to fill in one order form per family under the name of your oldest child in the school. There will be a water station available for you to fill up your cups or water bottles. All order forms must be returned to the office by Monday, April 11th!

In honour of Earth Day, we are trying to make this a zero garbage event. All families must bring their own reusable plates, cutlery, and cups to use and take home at the end of the BBQ. No paper plates or disposable cutlery please! There will be food waste bins available for leftover food. This will be a picnic style event so feel free to bring a blanket or lawn chairs to sit on.

This year we have some wonderful community partners who will have tables of information and activities for families to visit and enjoy. You may want to bring some cash for popsicle sales, baked goods, and “Stream of Dreams” fish to decorate. Families can purchase one fish per family for $15 to decorate and add to our school art installation.

Because it is Earth Day and parking is extremely limited at our school, we are urging families to walk, bike, bus or carpool to the BBQ. Also, you can bring your bikes to the “Bike Kitchen” for a free tune up!

We look forward to seeing you on April 21st!
