As the weather has been simply beautiful, it reminds us that our annual Earth Day BBQ will soon be here!
Our first Earth Day BBQ in 2013 began as a way to celebrate our newly created school garden. What started out as a grant from Think@Eat Green at Schools soon became a reality with four garden beds, a compost bin, blueberry bushes and small orchard, along with some very enthusiastic teachers and very supportive parents.
This first BBQ was such a success in bringing our school, families, and community partners together, that we decided to make it an annual event!
We are grateful for the support provided by M&M Meats who help cook the food for our BBQ, and to our University Hill Secondary Students for their volunteer time, but there is still lots to be done and help needed.
Our first planning meeting will be on Wednesday, March 25 at 3:10 in the garden room.
In the meantime, could you think about community partners/organizations that we could invite? The hope is that they would come and perhaps set up an information booth or activity. For example, we usually have Dr. David Ng come and demonstrate his Biodiversity card game for kids to play (phylogame.org). We have also had a station where kids can make plant pots and plant a seed. The more the merrier!
I have started a list of possible participants below, but feel free to email me with your ideas and contact person, and we can work together to invite and welcome.
Thank you in advance for your support in making this another great Earth Day BBQ!
