UBC and the University Neighbourhoods Association (UNA) are partnering to host the first Walk, Bike and Roll to School event for the UTown@UBC community. The goal of the event is to have fun with your neighbours, encourage active transportation all year long and build support for a Walking School Bus on campus.
A Walking School Bus is a simple strategy to reduce the number of cars traveling to and from school and provide families with an option of a safe and active trip for the school journey. A walking school bus provides an opportunity to establish stronger relationships with other families in the neighbourhood and can help to reduce the volume of traffic at the school. Children develop friendships, learn and practice traffic safety skills, and enjoy active transportation daily.
The UTown@UBC Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day will involve all UTown@UBC students attending UHill Elementary School and UHill High School, as well as families and community members.
We’re asking for parent and youth volunteers to assist with the planning and coordination of this fun and exciting event. The first planning meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 22nd from 4:00pm-5:30pm at the Old Barn Community Centre. If you are interested in participating in the organizing committee please email Qiuning Wang, Old Barn Community Centre Community Engagement & Volunteer Coordinator, at email@example.com.
