2010-2011 VSB Budget

The Vancouver School Board is anticipating a shortfall of $18.12 million for the 2010/2011 school year. Here are some information from our VSB Trustees:

March 2010 Letter to the Parents (multi-language)
Budget Brief for the 2010/2011

One of the proposals to reduce the shortfall is to:

    • standardize the school schedules for all elementary and secondary schools
    • eliminate early dismissal days
    • add 16 minutes to each elementary school day
    • add 18 minutes to each secondary school day
    • add 10 additional school closure days

A couple of supporting documents for these changes have been made available for distribution:

Proposal to change the Local School Calendar
School Calendars from 2006 to 2013

The VSB is anticipating a savings of $1 million a year with this proposal.   This proposal will be presented to the Board of Trustees at a public meeting on April 26, 2010.  If you would like to voice your opinion on the matter, you can do so:
