At the end of June 2008, the Vancouver School Board of Trustees voted in favour of new schools in the UBC area. University Hill Secondary school will be re-located to the old NRC site on 16th Ave (at East Mall) and will be scheduled for completion in December 2010. Instead of a planned capacity of 650 for the new UHill Secondary, VSB will consider increasing its capacity to 900 student spaces, something that was planned for Phase 2.
A new elementary school will be located at the current UHill Secondary school site on Acadia Rd. VSB will be planning for a dual-track regular English and French immersion programs at the new elementary school. The new school will have an intake of a single Kindergarten class in the French immersion program.
Funding for the construction of both schools will be from a $9.6M grant from the province of BC and a land transfer of the Anne Hebert school site to the Francophone School Board.
